Step by step: the ChatGPT app on your AgentBox desktop
Updated 10/18/2026
If your AI subscription is with OpenAI, the AgentBox puts it to work on two fronts: the official ChatGPT app on the cloud desktop for conversations, and the Codex agent in the terminal for autonomous work. Same account, same subscription, one box.
Step 1: install the ChatGPT app
On the AgentBox tab, under Apps, click Install on ChatGPT app. The box installs OpenAI's official application (the Linux version, in preview), which also registers its update repository: new versions arrive with the system updates.
Step 2: sign in
Open it from the applications menu in the Desktop view and sign in with your OpenAI account. The session stays alive: the app is always there, open exactly as you left it, reachable from the browser on any computer or phone.
Step 3: conversations next to the files
The advantage over ChatGPT in your laptop's browser: the app lives on the box where your documents and projects are. Hand it the files from the Desktop, talk them through, and the result stays right there, within reach of the terminal agent for the next steps.
Step 4: Codex in the terminal, ChatGPT on the desktop
On the AgentBox, OpenAI's Codex agent is already preinstalled in the terminal: run codex and sign in with the same account. The natural split: Codex gets the working tasks (code, automations, file processing), the ChatGPT app stays for thinking out loud, drafting and questions. Any combination of agents can live on one box, as the getting-started guide shows.
Step 5: alongside the others
Nothing forces you to pick a camp: the same desktop can host the Claude app and the other AI chats, each signed in to its own account. For the questions that matter, a second opinion is one click away.
What you end up with
- The official ChatGPT app, always signed in, on the cloud desktop.
- Codex in the terminal on the same subscription, for autonomous work.
- Conversations held right next to the box's files.
