Open-source alternatives to paid Microsoft products

Updated 7/20/2026

Microsoft licenses are paid monthly, per user, and grow with your team. For most products there are open-source alternatives you install on your own VPS with one click: you pay for the server once, no matter how many teammates use them, and the data stays with you, in the EU.

Microsoft 365, Office and OneDrive → Nextcloud

Nextcloud gives you file storage with sync (like OneDrive), calendar, contacts and collaborative document editing right in the browser. It is the most complete alternative to the 365 suite for teams.

Microsoft Teams (chat) → Mattermost or Rocket.Chat

Mattermost and Rocket.Chat offer channels, direct messages, calls and integrations, just like Teams or Slack, but on your server, with no history limits.

Microsoft Teams (video) → Jitsi Meet

Jitsi Meet is encrypted video conferencing, no account and no time limit, hosted by you.

Power BI → Metabase or Apache Superset

Metabase (simple, for the whole team) and Apache Superset (advanced) build dashboards and reports over your databases, like Power BI.

Power Automate → n8n, Activepieces or Automatisch

n8n, Activepieces and Automatisch automate workflows between apps (like Power Automate or Zapier), with no monthly task limits.

Dynamics 365 → Odoo or ERPNext

Odoo and ERPNext cover CRM, sales, inventory, invoicing and accounting in one integrated system, an alternative to Dynamics.

Visual Studio Code in the cloud → code-server

code-server runs VS Code in the browser, from your server, accessible from any device.

Azure DevOps and GitHub → Gitea or GitLab CE

Gitea (lightweight) and GitLab CE (full, with CI/CD) host Git repositories, pull requests and pipelines, on your own server.

Microsoft Bookings → Cal.com or Easy!Appointments

Cal.com and Easy!Appointments provide scheduling and booking pages under your own brand.

Microsoft Forms → LimeSurvey

LimeSurvey builds questionnaires and forms with advanced logic and multilingual support.

Power Apps and Access → NocoDB

NocoDB turns a database into a spreadsheet-like interface, an alternative to Access or Airtable.

OneNote → BookStack, AFFiNE or Docmost

BookStack, AFFiNE and Docmost organize notes, documentation and wikis for your team.
