How to make your own Minecraft server (and play with friends)

Your own Minecraft server means you decide the rules, the version and the mods, and your friends connect whenever they want, with no time or slot limits. With a one-click install, you start it in a few minutes.

Which plan you need, based on players

• 2-4 players, vanilla: 2 vCPU and 4 GB RAM are enough.
• 5-10 players or a few mods: 4 vCPU and 8 GB RAM for a smooth experience.
• Large modpacks or many players: 8 GB RAM or more, since Minecraft mostly consumes RAM.

Start the server with one click

When creating a VPS, pick the Minecraft Server app from the catalog. In 1-2 minutes the server runs on port 25565, with the EULA accepted automatically. The address you connect to appears in the access file on the server.

How to connect and invite friends

1. Open Minecraft (Java Edition) and go to Multiplayer.
2. Click Add Server and enter your server's IP address (port 25565 is the default).
3. Share the address with your friends so they can join too. That is it, you play together.

Administration and customization

You can run admin commands (op, whitelist, difficulty) through the server console. The world files and server.properties are saved persistently, so your settings survive a restart. For mods, move to a plan with more RAM and use a compatible server flavor (Paper, Forge, Fabric).

Do not forget backups

Keep a regular backup of your world, especially before installing mods. With hourly billing, you can even stop the server when you are not playing, so you do not pay for nothing.
