AgentBox vs OpenBot

OpenBot is an open-source platform for AI coworkers on your own infrastructure, built for teams and security rules. AgentBox is a ready-made cloud computer for one owner and their agent.

What OpenBot is

OpenBot is a CopilotKit project under the MIT licence that describes itself as a template, not a product. Each AI coworker (a "Bot") gets its own container with a browser, files and only the tools it was granted, and every action goes through one gateway that checks it against rules (CEL policies that refuse by default) and writes it to an audit log.

It works with any agent that speaks the AG-UI protocol, from LangGraph and Mastra to CrewAI, Pydantic AI or Google ADK, and has governed MCP servers, human takeover, encrypted credentials, scheduled routines and sign-in through Google, Microsoft, Okta, SAML or OIDC. It runs with Docker, Bun and PostgreSQL or from a single image, has a Helm chart, and needs CopilotKit Intelligence (a free plan or a self-hosting licence) and a model key. Its README marks it as alpha.

When OpenBot is the better choice

  • A whole team must use the same AI coworkers, with roles and SSO.
  • Your security team wants written rules for every action and a complete audit.
  • You build your own agents (LangGraph, CrewAI, Mastra) and want a platform for them.
  • You want it all on your own Kubernetes, with the data in your own PostgreSQL.

When AgentBox is the better choice

  • You are one person or a small company and want an agent working today.
  • You want Claude Code, Codex or Gemini exactly as you know them, not an agent built from scratch.
  • The agent needs a whole desktop with apps, not just a browser.
  • You do not want to look after servers, databases and updates.

Questions

Is AgentBox an OpenBot alternative for teams?

Only partly. Each AgentBox has one owner and no SSO or roles. For a large team with strict security rules, OpenBot is built for exactly that; for one person or a small team, an AgentBox each is usually simpler.

Can I run OpenBot on a cloudlinux.ro server?

Yes. OpenBot's Docker image runs on a regular cloud server from us, like on any Linux server with Docker. You still need CopilotKit Intelligence and a model key.

Does AgentBox have approvals like OpenBot?

Yes. Before a step that cannot be undone the agent runs agentbox-approve, and you answer Approve or Decline on Telegram, Slack, in the console or by email. No answer means it does nothing. It has no written policies like OpenBot's CEL rules, though.

Do I need a CopilotKit account for AgentBox?

No. You sign in directly to your agent, such as Claude Code or Codex, or paste an API key.
